Polish Terrier Meysi is the World's Smallest Dog

Posted: 01 Nov 2012 11:24 AM PDT

Tiny terrier Meysi weighed just 1.58 ounces when she was born in Poland three months ago, and is now vying for the title of world's smallest dog.

"I have to keep Meysi in a cage when I'm not around because I'm afraid she'll get stepped on," her owner Anna Pohl told the local paper, Gazeta Jarocinska. "It's a miracle Meysi is even alive."

Meysi now weighs about 3.25 ounces, but is still smaller than a cellphone. Veterinarians do not think she will grow much bigger.

While the teensy canine may indeed be the world's smallest dog, Pohl has to wait until Meysi is a year old before Guinness World Records guidelines will officially recognize her, as there is no category for smallest puppy.

Two days after Hurricane Sandy made landfall in southern New Jersey, President Obama was on hand to witness the devastation, comfort residents, and pledge the full support of the federal government in the recovery effort.

The President and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie surveyed the effects of the hurricane from Marine One, and then walked the streets of Brigantine, a town near Atlantic City. The two leaders also visited a community center now serving as a shelter for displaced residents.
